The
confirmation of the newly appointed service chiefs came after rigorous
screening which lasted nearly four hours behind closed doors.
The service chiefs appointed by
President Muhammadu Buhari on July 13th are:
Major-General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin -
Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General T.Y. Buratai - Chief of Army Staff, Rear
Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas - Chief of Naval Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadique
Abubakar - Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan - Chief of
Defence Intelligence and Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd.) - National

After
the exercise, the Senate President Senator Bukola Saraki said the appointment
of the security chiefs is based on merit and they are expected to provide a new
direction for the armed forces.
He urged them to work hard to root out the corruption in
the procurement of arms and ammunition for the armed forces, while promising
that the senate will give them all necessary assistance to enable them succeed.
